Female Media Opps: Sanofi retains media AOR, expands its duties amid surge in digital ad spend (Score 72)


Pharmaceutical giant Havas Media as US media AOR and expanded the agency's responsibilities. Havas will now handle media buying and planning across all of Sanofi's pharma and consumer brands in America, where before, the agency only handled these duties for prescription brands (media buying) and consumer brands (media planning). Havas was awarded these brands' responsibilities in 2017. Now, it will manage all of the company's US media investments. Omnicom was assigned Sanofi's media AOR duties in non-US markets.

This hire closely follows the company's appointments of EVP and CDO Arnaud Robert in June 2020. Robert may well be behind Sanofi's significant digital ad spend, which you can view in the link provided below.

Unfortunately for consumers, Sanofi's COVID-19 vaccine was delayed until late 2021 due to "insufficient response."

The company's increased digital ad spend and usage of paid social channels lead me to believe it is starting to include Gen-Z and millennials in its traditional target demographic of Gen-X and boomers. Its target demographic has a female skew. Kantar data reports Sanofi also invests in OOH, print, radio and local broadcast. Additionally, the company has recently shown interest in APIs and services.
