Jeffrey Rausch joined the company in November as digital technology VP; he comes from Newell Brands, where he served as senior digital program management and marketing technology director. In this role, Rausch focused on providing the best possible digital consumer experience. Considering his background, we expect an increased focus on digital channels as a result of this hire.
The restaurant chain's latest Q3 earnings call reported that it has officially started marketing its Grubhub partnership nationally across "a variety of campaigns and channels," along with targeted communications. SS will continue supporting the partnership with more marketing in the coming months.
SS is also temporarily shuttering an undisclosed number of locations in 2020 in order to upgrade them; keep an eye out for new, modern (hello, millennial parents) restaurant launches next year.
According to Adbeat, the company's digital display ads picked back up in and since November; from December 2018-2019, spend in this channel reached an estimated $2,600. Since no prior spend is recorded, it should continue throughout the coming year; spend stayed pretty flat from February-May 2019. Ads were placed programmatically via Google (100%) on sites such as littlethings.com ($634), westword.com, activebeat.com and ukathletics.com.
Remember that SS is looking to expand into new markets: Sarasota, Columbus, Boulder, Denver and Virginia Beach. Sellers able to get the company in front of its desired millennial parent target demographic will have the upper hand here.
