Female Millennial, Gen-X Opps: Wayfair seeks CMO amid advertising spend increases (Score 45)

Wayfair's top marketer for two years and is now moving to SimpleTire, where she will hold the same role. Pay close attention for her replacement as a new CMO will likely change up the marketing strategy and may make agency changes. According to the company's recent Q2 earnings transcript, Wayfair increased revenue by $1.7b (82.5%) yoy. The positive quarter may lead to increased ad dollars. 


According to iSpot, Wayfair spent around $84.6m on national TV ads YTD, a slight 3% decrease from $87.3m spent during the same time period of 2019. Full-year spend equaled $132.3m in 2019 and $106.7m in 2018. 

Sellers-- Wayfair mainly targets Gen-X and millennial women through digital display and national TV ads. It also invests in local print ads, per Kantar. It does not have a top spending period as it keeps as it prefers to keep an even level of spending for the entire year. Keep in mind, the company's strategy is subject to change once it finds a new CMO.
