Planet Fitness announces digital AOR appointment (Score 80)


here. PF has been ramping up digital spend so far this year, so I predict this will continue now that it has a digital AOR. 

According to Pathmatics, PF earned 2.4b impressions YTD through Facebook ads (36%), Instagram ads (31%), desktop video ads (27%), desktop display ads (5%) and mobile display ads (1%). It placed the majority (95%) of these ads site direct onto sites such as facebook.com, instagram.com, youtube.com, hulu.com and msn.com. It placed the remainder (5%) through a variety of indirect channels onto sites such as yahoo.com, zillow.com, reddit.com, quizlet.com and finance.yahoo.com. It spent around $21.8m on digital display ads YTD, about double the $11m spent in this channel during the same time period of 2020. Full-year spend fell 29% from $19.2m in 2019 to $13.6m in 2020. 

Magellan estimates PF placed about 10 podcast ads over the last year. 

Per iSpot, PF spent around $18.2m on national TV ads YTD, a 15% decrease from $21.3m spent in this channel during the same time period of 2020. Full-year spend jumped 44% from $18.6m in 2019 to $26.8m in 2020. This year, it placed ads during programming such as "Today," "Friends," "Good Morning America," "Ridiculousness" and "Judge Judy." 

Sellers-- PF targets a broad audience through its national TV and digital display ads. The company has significantly increased digital spend so far this year, while lowering TV spend. It also invests in OOH, print, radio and local broadcast TV ads, per Kantar. PF has shown a commitment towards marketing with the recent AOR appointments, so it may be planning a campaign or big marketing push. Sellers should contact this company's DMs to offer relevant ad space.
