B2B Media Opps: Deloitte promotes global CMO, hires US CMO amid digital ad spend increase (Score 60)

Consulting group Deloitte promoted Matt McGrath, its former CMO for Asia Pacific and Australia, to the role of global CMO. Effective September 1, this shift replaces incumbent Diana O'Brien, who is retiring. McGrath is credited with playing a key part in the development of Deloitte's first global ad campaign, "Make Your Impact," in 2018. Since his responsibilities will now include US marketing, we may see strategic shifts as a result of his promotion.

Additionally, in January, Deloitte hired US CMO Jeff Devlin, who was previously WPP's chairman.

According to iSpot, YTD national TV spend of approximately $9.5k targeted viewers of Women's Soccer and Tiger and Rocco, a significant drop from the approximately $1.5m spent by this point last year. Deloitte's full 2019 spend declined by 25% to around $1.8m from around $2.4m in 2018.

So far this year, Pathmatics estimates the company has generated 434.8m digital impressions via desktop display ads (69%), Twitter ads (21%), mobile video ads (9%), desktop video ads (1%) and Instagram ads (1%). 98% of desktop display ads were placed site direct onto destinations such as,,, and Deloitte's YTD spend of $4.4m marks a 19% increase from the $3.7m spent in the same 2019 timeframe; last year, the company allocated $5.8m toward this channel, down 13% from $6.7m in 2018.

As you can see, lower national TV spend has allowed higher digital ad spend; Deloitte tends to target corporations and governmental agencies.
