B2B Opps: Qlik promotes CMO as digital spend skyrockets (Score 56)


selected Chris Powell as its new CMO to handle worldwide marketing and communications organization, effective June. He will manage the team that oversees brand awareness, messaging, demand management and communications. Powell joined the company in 2021 as its global field and partner marketing SVP after having served as the CMO at Commvault. Since joining Qlik, Powell has led multiple strategic initiatives such as the development and launch of the company's latest global branding campaign. His promotion will likely lead to similar strategy shifts, so keep an eye out for higher spend and/or agency reviews.

Additional recent hires include brand and creative VP Kathryn Kane (November) and global customer marketing director Lauren Turner (February).

Per Pathmatics, Qlik has spent roughly $602.4k on digital ads YTD, almost 5x the roughly $124.1k spent by this point last year. In 2021, the company's estimated full-year spend dropped 21% to $1.1m from that of $1.4m in 2020. So far this year, Qlik has earned around 114m digital impressions via Twitter (88%), desktop display (8%), mobile display (3%) and Facebook (2%) ads.

The company's spend shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon, so sellers should reach out sooner rather than later to offer high-ROI B2B strategies. Kantar data reports that Qlik also utilizes OOH and local broadcast.
