Millennial, Gen-Z Opps: Dunkin' hires US CMO amid spend increases (Score 67)


Cola's tea portfolio. He will report to president Scott Murphy and will be responsible for all advertising including field, experiential, traditional and digital marketing. He will also manage product innovation and communication. This hire will affect the company's marketing strategy and agency roster. 

Per Pathmatics, Dunkin' earned 6.1b impressions YTD through Facebook ads (60%), Instagram ads (23%), desktop video ads (10%), Twitter ads (5%) and desktop display ads (2%). It placed 100% of these ads site direct onto sites such as facebook.com, instagram.com, youtube.com, twitter.com and twitch.tv. It spent around $48.9m on digital display ads YTD, a drastic increase from $7.3m spent in this channel during the same time period of 2020. Full-year spend skyrocketed from $19.2m in 2019 to $59.8m in 2020. 

Magellan reports Dunkin' placed about 760 podcast ads over the last year. 

According to iSpot, Dunkin' spent around $33.5m on national TV ads YTD, a slight 4% increase from $32.4m spent in this channel during the same time period of 2020. Full-year equaled $59m in 2019 and $58.2m in 2020. This year, Dunkin' placed ads during programming such as "NHL Hockey," "NFL Football," "Today," "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" and "La Rosa de Guadalupe." 

Sellers-- It seems Dunkin' is primarily targeting Gen-Z and millennials through national TV and digital display ads. It increased spend in both channels so far this year, but it is really ramping up digital spend. It also invests in OOH, print, radio and local broadcast TV ads, per Kantar. Sellers should start contacting the new CMO to see what types of ad space you may be able to provide.
