Gen-Z Parents Opps: MGA Entertainment taps slew of VPs to replace CMO (Score 54)
Jamie Gutfreund parted ways with around a year as its CMO. It seems as though instead of finding a new CMO, MGA is arming itself with VPs - within the past few months, it has hired marketing VP Corey Roman (July), social media strategy and content VP Katie Ioffe (May) and global digital marketing, media and operations VP Jonathan Viola (April). MGA also selected Kotomi Nanjo as the marketing VP for LOL Surprise, one of its top brands, in July. These new marketing VPs will affect MGA's marketing strategy and spend, so sellers should get in touch soon to determine details about their plans.
According to Pathmatics, the toy brand (this includes all its subsidiaries) has spent roughly $7m on digital ads YTD, already 35% more than the roughly $5.2m it spent in all of 2020. In 2020, MGA's estimated full-year spend ($5.2m) reached barely (2%) more than that of $5.1m in 2019. So far this year, it has earned around 572.4m digital impressions via YouTube (77%), Instagram (10%), desktop display (6%), mobile video (4%), Facebook (3%) and mobile display (1%) ads.
Right now, MGA tends to target kids and their Gen-Z parents, so sellers able to offer high-ROI digital strategies should get in touch sooner rather than later. Kantar data reports the company also invests in local broadcast.
