Campaign Imminent: Hard Rock Digital taps creative AOR after CMO hire (Score 83)


Hard Rock brand and Seminole Gaming. 

This appointment comes not long after HRD selected John Koller as its first CMO in June. Koller was previously the global marketing SVP at Twitch. The company also hired Ryan Maloney, the former global gaming industry manager for Facebook, as media and creative VP and David Hampian, the former senior global integrated marketing director for Amazon, as brand marketing VP. Both of these VP hires went into effect in August.

Pathmatics doesn't yet report specific spend for the HRD brand, but I expect this will change as Hard Rock puts more energy toward it. Hard Rock itself has spent roughly $1.9m on digital ads YTD, up 36% from the roughly $1.4m it spent within the same 2020 timeframe. The cafe chain ended up spending roughly $4.3m on digital ads last year, around 3x the roughly $1.6m it spent in 2019. Since the beginning of 2021, Hard Rock has earned around 289m digital impressions via Facebook (45%), desktop display (28%), Instagram (17%), mobile display (7%) and desktop video (2%) ads. The majority of this year's desktop display ads have been placed site direct onto youtube.com (31%) or nj.com (25%).

Remember, upcoming work will include digital, social and OOH media, the last of which will roll out in FL soon and then expand early next year. This new work is specifically geared to reach Gen-Z and millennials, especially male sports enthusiasts. It also invests in search marketing. Sellers should get in touch soon to offer relevant ad space.
