Gen-Z, Millennial Opps: Krispy Kreme promotes CBO (Score 55)


romoted David Skena to global CBO, effective February 2022. Skena joined the company in November 2018 as NA CMO and global brand director, having previously served as Ruby Tuesday's CMO. KK may seek a replacement CMO. We will, of course, keep you updated; in the meantime, keep the brand on your radar.

Lately, KK has been less focused on driving in-store traffic and more focused on delivering doughnuts as fresh and as quickly as possible. It's promoting existing items rather than coming up with new products.

Per Pathmatics, KK has spent roughly $4.9m on digital ads YTD, 11% less than the roughly $5.5m it spent within the same 2021 timeframe. The company's estimated full-year 2021 spend, $22.4m, was up 45% from that of $15.4m in 2020. So far this year, KK has earned around 576.4m digital impressions via Facebook (57%) and Twitter (43%) ads.

Additionally, Magellan shows the company has aired one podcast ad within the past 12 months.

Hopefully, spend will pick up soon. Millennials tend to use Facebook more than other audiences, and Gen-Z tend to use Instagram similarly. Thus, sellers able to offer high-ROI strategies among Gen-Z and millennials will have an advantage securing ad dollars. Kantar data reports KK also invests in OOH and local broadcast.
