Campaign Imminent: No. 87 Fifth Third Bank hires new creative AOR after moving media

Empower, Cincy picked up media in October. 

Q1 is historically Fifth's top advertising period, but POD isn't bringing the boom, aka breaking their first campaign until the summer, the bank's secondary buying period. So, there should still be time for sellers to secure traditional and digital new campaign revenue. The new campaign will be an attempt to rebrand the big bank, so look for ad support to be higher than usual. 

Still, while traditional spending will likely be up, lean heavily on your digital direct response (DR) capabilities. Empower was hired partly to boost the bank's DR approach and transition here).

​Incumbent: Publicis's Mediavest/Spark, Chi had media since 2011. 

Media Spend: Fifth Third spent $20 million on measured media through Q3 last year and $28 million for all of 2015, according to Kantar Media. Spot TV makes up the bulk of their budget, followed by national spot radio, newspapers and display. 

Digital Breakdown: Almost $335,000 went to 85.5 million impressions the last 12 months, down from $1.6 million for 276.9 million impressions in 2015, Pathmatics reports. Desktop still makes up the bulk of budget, but impressions are being purchased more programmatically now. Most of these ads flowed through Google and DSPs Rocket Fuel and DBM, though 33% of spending was still site direct.
