Campaign Imminent: New York Road Runners taps PR AOR as digital spend skyrockets (Score 46)

The Civic as its PR AOR to handle media relations and corporate communications. The agency will manage both national and regional press around the organization's initiatives and running events such as marquee races, youth and community programs, strategic partnerships and executive messaging. This hire could lead to spend increases and/or additional agency hires.

Since the beginning of 2022, iSpot reports the NYRR has allocated roughly $17.7k toward national TV commercials, a significant decrease from the roughly $60.4k allocated within the same 2021 timeframe. The organization ended up allocating roughly $105.6k toward this channel last year, a significant increase from the roughly $38.3k spent in 2020. The NYRR's 2022 commercials have aired during shows such as The Accountant, CSI: Miami, Spider-Man: Far From Home, Den of Thieves and Life Below Zero: Next Generation.

According to Pathmatics, the organization has spent approximately $2.1m on digital ads, already up exponentially from the approximately $136.7k spent in all of 2021. In 2021, the NYRR's estimated full-year spend ($136.7k) only reached around half of that of $253.2k in 2020. So far this year, the organization has earned ~150.7m digital impressions via desktop display (59%), mobile display (39%) and Facebook (2%) ads placed largely site direct onto destinations such as people.com (18%), allrecipes.com, foodandwine.com, bhg.com and southernliving.com.

Digital spend shows no sign of slowing down anytime soon, so sellers should contact soon to offer high-ROI digital strategies among millennials. The NYRR also utilizes email marketing. I expect the organization additionally invests in experiential marketing at various events.

Agency & martech readers - As you know, PR hires often precede additional agency reviews; get in touch soon to offer creative, media, digital analytics and/or social media management assistance.
