The University of Kansas creates new position by promoting marketing director to CMO (Score 59)


The as UK's marketing and PR director of the Edwards Campus. He served as the marketing business developer at Cerner Corporation prior to that. Gregory is the university's first CMO, and he will now be responsible for improving and expanding its existing marketing capabilities. 

Per Pathmatics, UK earned 369.8m impressions in 2021 through desktop display ads (57%), Facebook ads (30%), mobile display ads (7%), Instagram ads (3%), Twitter ads (2%) and desktop video ads (1%). It placed the majority (51%) of these ads site direct onto sites such as facebook.com, youtube.com, instagram.com, twitter.com and kansascity.com. It placed the remainder (49%) through a variety of indirect channels onto sites such as 10news.com, 10tv.com, 123greetings.com, 800notes.com and 9to5mac.com. It spent around $1.7m on digital display ads in 2021, more than double the $756k spent in this channel during 2020. 

According to iSpot, UK spent approximately $30.1k on national TV ads in 2021 during "College Football." 2021 spend increased by about 14% from $26.4k spent in this channel during 2020. 

Sellers-- UK targets high school upperclassmen (Gen-Zers) and their Gen-X parents. The university allocates the majority of its ad dollars towards digital channels. Furthermore, it increased digital spend significantly in 2021. UK also increased national TV spend, but it spends much less in that channel than on digital ads. It also invests in OOH, print and local broadcast TV ads, per Kantar. Sellers should reach out to the new CMO to offer ad space.
