Illinois Office of Tourism launches campaign featuring actress Jane Lynch (Score 18)


"Middle of Everything" campaign. The creative features actress Jane Lynch as the state's official tour guide. It will be supported by multiple TV ads that will air locally in Illinois and seven surrounding states. The ads will be released nationally on cable TV on April 25th. The budget for the campaign, which is reportedly $30.3m, will also be supported by OOH, print and digital ads. 

According to Pathmatics, IOT earned 11.9m impressions YTD through desktop display ads (87%) and mobile display ads (13%). It placed the majority (55%) of these ads through multiple indirect channels onto sites such as yahoo.com, foxnews.com, parentinfluence.com, tripadvisor.com and forbes.com. It placed the remainder (45%) site direct onto sites such as yahoo.com, queerty.com, factinate.com, boredomtherapy.com and constative.com. It spent around $44.7k on digital display ads YTD after it did not allocate any budget towards this channel during the same time period of 2021. Full-year spend fell 53% from $271.6k in 2020 to $127.5k in 2021. 

Sellers-- IOT targets potential visitors primarily through digital display ads. I believe it mainly targets Gen-X and millennial parents looking for a place to take their families. While spend has been declining, I expect that trend to be reversed since it just launched a campaign. It also invests in OOH, print, radio and local broadcast TV ads, per Kantar. Sellers should reach out soon to offer last-minute campaign ad space.
