Female Engagement Opps: UGG creating more unique experiences to drive loyalty, direct sales

Deckers' CEO Dave Powers said during the recent Q3 earnings call that they know the "UGG consumer and younger consumers in general value experiences more than things, in some cases." So, UGG wants to recognize customers for their social behavior (posting about Ugg on social media) and create more opportunities for them to win experiences and special products, he added. 

As such, readers offering female-millennial-friendly experiences should pitch partnership strategies. Examples of recent deals include ones with supermodel Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, the New York Islanders and the Santa Barbara International Film Festival. Ultimately, the goal is to drive more social media traffic and direct revenue, potentially opening up more direct response (DR) budgets this year, as well.

Media Spend: UGG traditionally spends about $5-$5.5 million on measured media, almost half of which was allocated to print in 2015, according to Kantar Media. However, outdoor and display made up the bulk of last year's spend.

Digital Breakdown: Almost $954,000 garnered 114.6 million impressions the past 12 months, down from $1.4 million for 109.1 million impressions a year earlier. At 72% of spending, desktop ads still make up the bulk of spending, followed by mobile and desktop video, Pathmatics reports. 

Most of these impressions, about 71%, were bought site direct. Most of the remainder flowed programmatically via DSP Rocket Fuel and the BlogHer ad network.
