I believe Heisman is replacing Carol Carpenter, who held the role for close to two years. Keep an eye on VMware because the CMO hire could lead to spend shifts or agency reviews. 

According to Pathmatics, VMware earned 129.4m impressions YTD through desktop video ads (58%), Facebook ads (24%), Instagram ads (9%), desktop display ads (6%) and Twitter ads (3%). It placed the majority (99%) of these ads site direct onto sites such as youtube.com, facebook.com, instagram.com, twitter.com and crn.com. It placed the remainder (1%) indirectly through Google AdX+AdSense and The Trade Desk onto sites such as yahoo.com, chess.com, ebay.com, slickdeals.net and kohls.com. It spent around $1.4m on digital display ads YTD, more than double the $638.4k spent in this channel during the same time period of 2021. Full-year spend equaled $4.9m in 2021, a 20% decrease from $6.1m in 2020. 

Magellan reports VMware placed about 75 podcast ads over the last 365 days. 

Per iSpot, VMware spent $487.9m on national TV ad YTD during programming such as "Deadline: White House," "The Lead With Jake Tapper," "CNN Newsroom With Poppy Harlow and Jim Sciutto," "CNN Newsroom with Alisyn Camerota and Victor Blackwell" and "New Day with John Berman and Brianna Keilar." Full-year spend jumped 40% from $2m in 2020 to $2.8m in 2021. 

Sellers-- VMware targets businesses primarily through digital display and national TV ads. It increased spend in both channels in 2021, especially for digital ads. It also invests in OOH, radio and local broadcast TV ads, per Kantar. I predict the new CMO will continue increasing spend.
